About our company name.

When we started the company, we went casting about for a suitable name. When the Lawyers did the search, and finally got back to us with the results, our first couple of choices were already taken. Time was running out. We had set a deadline for our lawyers to file the paperwork with the New York State Department of Commerce and it was approaching fast. We had about twelve hours left to find a new name. We wanted something  that would be easy to remember, a little vague and quick to utter. After wracking our brains for awhile, we came up with CSI Technologies, Inc. We made our self imposed deadline.

From whence did it spring?

Well it's quite simple. Since we were "into" a lot of areas of computer science, we decided upon the initials that were (and still are I suppose) used in the State University of NY at Albany Computer Science department course designations. For example CSI-101, CSI-400 and so on. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Who we are not associated with.

First of all, we are not associated in any way (except I have a personal account there) with Compuserve. In fact, in 1987, Compuserve did not have CSI plastered all over it's graphic art. It was known as CompuServe or CS.

More recently, an organization know as the Church of Scientology is being referred to by some as the CSI. I think their official initials are COS. Anyway, we are not affiliated with them either.

After doing a web site search, I was astounded to find there are probably ten or so CSI's in the country with a web presence. For most of these companies, the CSI are initials that stand for three separate words. Like for example, (and I'm making this up) Copper Sulfate Industries. Again, we are not affiliated with any of those companies.

The other Csi Technologies, Inc.

It has reciently come to our attention that there is a company in California with nearly the same name as ours that manufactures capicators. Our "CSI" is all caps, although we usually make the "SI" part smaller. Theirs is capitol "C" and small "si". Our company and theirs are not affiliated in any way. Please contact them for you capicator needs.
