Plier type saw sets are designed as a set of pliers with two handles. Common plier saw sets were sold in the millions and some are still sold to this day. These represent the most useful and easiest to use. For the craftsman looking for a saw set, these are recommend. From my experience the Stanley
and Stearn's pistol grip are the best bet, there are a lot of them out there and the prices are reasonable. Don't buy any saw set that has a worn anvil or plunger, unless you are building a collection.
Most of the more common saw sets are listed in #1,
#2 & #3 with the bulk of the more uncommon ones listed in
the others that follow. Uncommon plier type saw sets are ones not commonly seen at flea markets or on Ebay. These represent some of the more collectable and valuable designs.
European
saw sets are listed in European style along with a link to a German site
with many saw set pictures.
